(sample tour itinerary)
Meet Colin, your knowledgeable tour guide and wine expert, at your hotel in either Colmar or Basel, where we will both begin and end your tour to the enchanting wine region of Alsace.
You will then board our vehicle for the day and make our way towards the Routes des Vins d’Alsace, which is a 105-mile (170-km) route winding through the rolling hills of the Vosges Mountains.
“Colin made our wine tasting day very memorable. His obvious love and passion for the wines is a pleasure to see and his knowledge and experience is vast. My wife and I both highly recommend a tour with Colin. You will not regret it”. jamescA745FC November 2019
Together we will journey through the beautiful Départment of the Haut-Rhin, where during the course of the day; we will stop at four artisanal wineries to taste and savour the magnificent wines of which Alsace is rightly famous, including Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Riesling.
You will learn about the wines, the importance of the many varied soil types, the terroir and the regions turbulent history, all whilst enjoying the close personal attention in a small group of like minded wine enthusiasts (limited to between 2 – 6 people per wine tour).
Your first stop of the day will be in either historic Guebwiller, the most westerly of the Haut-Rhin villages or the charming ancient (UNESCO) village of Eguisheim, where you will visit your first winery of the day.
Here you will encounter multi-award winning wines that are produced strictly according to organic practices and those that respect the beliefs of Bio-dynamism.
Both of these delightful villages are on the famed Routes des Vins d’Alsace.
The second destination of your day tour is the pretty medieval village of Riquewihr. Considered by many to be one of the most picturesque villages in the whole of Alsace.
The Vigneron’s of Riquewihr produce unquestionably, many of the most exquisitely dry white wines to be found in the region. It is here that you will taste sparkling Crémant d’Alsace, (made using the traditional champagne method) also the deliciously fragrant, and multi-layered Gewürztraminer wine, famous for its spicy, fragrant, fruity character, amongst many other wonderful wines.
We will then take a break at around midday, in Riquewihr, where you will be free to have lunch wherever you choose (Not included in the wine tour price).
We can also offer you a vineyard picnic option, weather permitting if you wish (see price list for details).
“A must do day trip to wine country! Colin led our group of 6 business colleagues and friends through the Alsace region of France with door-to-door service. He was very communicative from the start about the plans for pick up and what to expect. He carefully selected 4 wineries within relatively close proximity to each other and tailored to our group’s interests. It was a nice mix of locations with regards to wine types and atmosphere of the winery”. BFrog89 July 2019
After lunch, we will then make our way up into the fabulous Schonenbourg Grand Cru vineyard, where you can observe the rich tapestry of the vineyards and the verdant, undulating landscape stretching out before you.
Next, we will head towards the delightful ancient village of Kientzheim which lies in the shadow of the very first designated Grand Cru vineyard, home to two of the most dynamic wine producers in the region.
Here you will visit one of these fabulous boutique wineries where you will taste some of the most exciting and critically acclaimed wines produced from the region.
The wines of both these Domaine’ reflect the ideals of Bio-dynamism and their commitment to sustainable working practices, combining both harmony and empathy in the vineyard.
Your day ends with a visit to the charming town of Ribeauville, located at the very heart of the vineyard region. Renowned for its 3 Grand Cru’s Osterberg, Kirchberg and Geisberg, the soil types vary from vineyard to vineyard.
